Bespoke Furniture for your Library

Libraries are a luxury. They should be spaces to store your beloved collection of books, to relax, read and think.

Often it's particularly important to measure spaces well for a library because people like the bookcase sections to reach from floor to ceiling.

Tradition

A classic way to build cabinets and bookcases of such proportions is to build them in sections.

There are two common traditional builds for this type; the Regency flat front or break front bookcase, which has a bottom section with cupboards and a top section of display cases with glazed doors, and the Country style, which has a separate solid wood plinth, a bookcase section slotted and fixed on top of that, followed by a moulded or carved crown which is fixed to the top.

Even on traditional cabinets like this, we have a habit of recommending modern fixings, such as soft close, top down lighting and sometimes modern runners for drawers. However, it is, of course, still possible to build these items with every single traditional method available, including hand cut dovetail joints and mortised and tennoned flat door frames from solid woods.

Using these methods, it's possible to create a library that will fit your space with prefect grace.

Modern

A more contemporary look for your library could involve wall fixings, on which floating shelves are placed, with housings fixed into the ceiling and walls, upon which sliding doors can be placed or hung to cover certain sections at certain times to protect books. It could also involve metal, glass, mirrors and lights to enhance the feeling of space in the room.

It's also possible to create modern libraries using traditional methods, but designing using very modern materials and veneers to create a stunning look.

All these types of furniture can be enhanced and modified according to our customers needs. All it takes is communication and visualisation.
